Review: Falling Out
New theater is a long process full of drafts and revisions, so it is always special to see the world premiere production of a brand-new musical. Falling Out is one such show that I was fortunate enough to see on its opening night earlier this week. Written by Josée Klein and directed by Anthony Logan Cole, this feel-good show excels in many areas, but like any new show, it still has room to improve.

Review: Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story
Absolutely brilliant. As part of the International Fringe Encores Series, Awkward Productions is back at SoHo Playhouse with another of their gleefully unhinged shows! In its American debut, Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story is the most irreverent, energetic, and frankly absurd retelling of Princess Diana’s story.

Review: Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)
🌟VERDICT’S PICK🌟
If you’re coming to Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) for an abundance of cake-carrying, you may be disappointed—but you’ll quickly find there’s something much sweeter on offer. What it lacks in cake, however, it makes up for tenfold in its brilliant wit and effervescent charm. The latest West End import in a seemingly unstoppable run of successes, Two Strangers is the kind of rom-com musical that pulls at your heartstrings while keeping a smile

Review: Mamma Mia
🌟VERDICT’S PICK🌟
Here we go again! Mamma Mia is back and taking Broadway by storm! The 25th anniversary national tour of the fan-favorite jukebox musical set to the songs of ABBA is making a prolonged stop at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway, where it first opened in 2001.

Review: Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Bee… nope. Not saying it. Back on Broadway in its third reincarnation, audiences are no strangers to Beetlejuice. Based on the iconic cult-classic Tim Burton movie, the musical originally opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2019, then again at the Marquis after the COVID shutdown. It closed in early 2023, seemingly ending its rocky four years in New York before setting out on tour.

Review: Chess
Nearly forty years since its notoriously short and troubled original Broadway run, Chess is back in its first revival. With music by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and lyrics by Ulvaeus and the legendary Tim Rice, the musical has long struggled under the weight of its dense, multi-layered Cold War plot, undergoing numerous revisions since its London premiere in 1986.

Review: Gwyneth Goes Skiing
After a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024, Awkward Productions’ Gwyneth Goes Skiing has crossed the pond and is now playing at the SoHo Playhouse. After seeing their newest show, The Fit Prince (...), in Edinburgh this summer, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see another of their campy productions—and it did not disappoint.

Review: Hamilton
Ten years ago, Hamilton opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre to some of the most unanimously effusive praise in Broadway history. Ten years later, it continues to remind audiences why it deserves every bit of that praise — and more.

Review: Ragtime
How lucky are we that Lincoln Center has graced us with such a beautiful production! Lear deBessonet’s main-stem transfer of New York City Center’s 2024 Gala production of the stage adaptation of E. L. Doctorow’s seminal classic Ragtime, is perhaps the most anticipated opening of the 2025-26 Broadway season.

Oh, what a show” indeed.
In the newest installment in what seems to be a never ending stream of shows on either side of the Atlantic, director Jamie Lloyd has created another stunning masterpiece.

Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
🌟VERDICT'S PICK 🌟It’s rare to find a musical that toys with perfection—when it happens, it’s something truly special. Opening in October of 2024 at The Ambassadors Theatre in London’s West End following two critically acclaimed runs at the Southwark Playhouse, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a masterpiece in storytelling.

Review: Pirates! The Penzance Musical
In a season of bold reimaginings of classic pieces in the musical theatre canon, some have stood out, highlighting different aspects of a known work and turning it into a new production. However, some have missed that mark by a large margin.

Review: Sondheim's Old Friends
If there was any more talent on stage at the Friedman Theatre, it might border on illegal. Originally devised by Sir Cameron Mackintosh as a one-night-only event in the West End in 2022, Sondheim’s Old Friends starred the biggest names in London, and celebrated the life of legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim—fittingly held at the theatre named after him.

Review: Maybe Happy Ending
“Why love?” is the question that bookends Maybe Happy Ending, and is the driving emotional force of the show. In what was one of the most crowded seasons in the history of new musicals opening on Broadway, Maybe Happy Ending, a new musical by Will Aronson and Hue Park, has stood out from the very beginning.

Review: The Picture of Dorian Gray
More like “Hide and Seek with Sarah Snook.” Sometimes she’s visible and downstage, but more often than not, she’s hidden by one of the screens or a set piece. However, that shouldn’t matter because she is always there on one screen or another, but she is always performing to the camera - never the audience. And there lies my gripe with this show - it was a movie that just happened to be filmed mostly live.
